First Few Days... just a little review.

Monday June 27
We went to our last meeting with all our friends and family. After the meeting, a lot of us went to eat together. All my best friends were there, and it made me feel a lot better to be able to be with all of them a little longer before I left. We had a lot of fun that night and it made me realize how much I really was going to miss them. But I know I'll see them all again. Then we had to say goodbye... Yes. There were tears.  We hugged, we cried, we said goodbye, for now...

Tuesday June 28
I woke up, eyes puffy from the night before. Finished packing the last few things into my suitcase and packed the car. We said goodbye to our family, and drove to the airport. Only when we got there we realized how many suitcases we had. It was a lot! It took a while to get them all checked but we eventually made it. I sat by myself on the airplane, and watched out the window as we flew away. I was excited, nervous, sad, happy and so many other things all at the same time. There was no turning back now... hahahaha.

Later that day we landed in Florida. Our next flight wasn't till the next morning, so we had to sleep in the airport. It wasn't too bad, except they like to keep the airport at -76 degrees! It was freezing. And since we were traveling to Dominican Republic, an island where the coldest it gets is probably about 70 degrees, we didn't exactly have anything to keep warm. Luckily, we made it through the night without getting pneumonia. At least they were nice enough to give us chest X-rays at TSA.

Wednesday June 29
We got onto our next flight at 7:00 in the morning. I slept trough this one, so all I remember is closing my eyes and a few minutes later, waking up in a different country. We got our bags, went through customs and met the sister that was picking us up. She drove us to our new home. But first shared some pretty good ribs for lunch.  Then we went to the store to buy some groceries... and at last we got home.

Thursday June 30
We got up, got dressed and went straight to the beach.

You can never go wrong with the beach! It was pretty breezy. The water really blue and it was really warm outside. It was great!

About an hour into our lounging in the water, I feel a sharp, burning feeling on my stomach and up my side. It was a jellyfish! I honestly thought my skin was going to fall of. It felt like someone is stabbing you a million times with a fork... I guess that is what it would feel like. So not the best beach experience of my life.

Friday July 1
Today we went to the store to get a couple things for the house. We cleaned, then just hung out at the house. Tomorrow we will go to the kingdom hall to meet some new brothers. So I'm excited about that!

Keilani, here'so some tips for dealing with jellyfish. If you're stung, don't try to swipe the area with your hand. Any leftover stingers will fire off. Rinse off the area with salt water only. Fresh water will also cause the nematocysts to fire. I got a little spray bottle at the drug store to keep in my beach bag filled with cider vinegar. That is wonderful for getting rid of the sting.
I'll look forward to reading all about your adventures and how Jehovah blesses your efforts. . Love to you, Raquel, and your mom and dad.

Hi Keilani. We live in Alabama, but we visited the DR once. We went to the Branch office in Santo Domingo, and really enjoyed our tour. I admire your family and wish we were able to do the same. Sorry to hear about your jellyfish sting. I hope it won't hurt for long! I'm looking forward to reading all about your adventures.

Thanks for putting your own blog out there, young lady. We can almost hear you growing up from here !! Isn't the preaching work great there? And Las Terrenas, what a beach!! Y Cayo Levantado. Oh, and thanks for helping to give Nicole and Debbie the time of their lives. And for letting them come back to us - at least for now.
